The Briefing

Why this role

  • You would be the first engineer dedicated to the boundary between factory and platform, early enough to shape what forward-deployed engineering means here.

    Source: About the Opportunity
  • Production is where the job starts: an active beta factory, real machines, real operators, and real legacy software from day one, not a demo waiting for a use case.

The full posting, unedited

Your code will meet real robots, operators, legacy systems, and production constraints. The outcome has to work outside a demo.

This is the first dedicated forward-deployed engineering role in a very early team. You will own the path from understanding an operational factory problem to integrating, deploying, evaluating, and improving a working robotic system.

The role is approximately 70% technical delivery and 30% forward-deployed and customer-site work. Business discovery matters, but this remains a hands-on engineering position rather than a strategy, sales, or support role.

Infinite Hands is building embodied AI for aerospace manufacturing.

The company deploys robotic systems into active factories and is building a hardware-agnostic software layer for orchestration, integration, and verification across those deployments.

The team is very early, but the work is already real. There is an active beta factory environment and direct access to industrial tools and workflows. You will work directly with a founding team that combines deep aerospace operating experience across acquisitions and running aerospace businesses with a technical founder who spent approximately 12 years at Apple across Siri, applied AI, robotics, and future-device systems. A Lead Robotics Engineer is already in place.

You will be the first engineer dedicated to the boundary between factory and platform. That puts you closest to how the work happens: connecting the platform to the systems already there, running and evaluating models, fixing deployment problems, and turning field evidence into better product and platform decisions.

This is not another SaaS role or a demo-only robotics job. The system has to interact with real machines, real operators, real legacy software, and real production constraints.

Many robotics and AI roles promise production exposure later. Here, production is where the job starts.

The factory is already part of Infinite Hands' operating model.

Through its aerospace design-partner relationship, the team has direct access to operating factory environments and a substantial network of potential deployment opportunities. That lets you learn directly from active aerospace operations, test ideas against real workflows, and move useful systems into production. You are not being asked to build technology in isolation and search for a use case later.

You will join early enough to shape how deployments work, which abstractions belong in the platform, and what strong forward-deployed engineering means for the company.

  • Become the front-line technical point of contact for the beta factory deployment.
  • Spend time on the factory floor observing operators, workflows, equipment, and the real constraints around the task being automated.
  • Run deployed and fine-tuned models, inspect logs and traces, collect task data, support practical evaluations, and monitor performance.
  • Diagnose and fix on-premise problems yourself, including system behavior and operator-UX issues.
  • Work through old Windows or Linux environments, drivers, legacy protocols, imperfect interfaces, and messy data when that is what the deployment exposes.

  • The technical path from an operational factory problem to a working robot deployment.
  • Discovery with operators, engineers, and business leaders to understand the workflow, constraints, and desired outcome.
  • System and integration decisions across backend services, factory software, devices, controls, data flows, and physical hardware. You will build the software path between the platform and databases, ERP, quality systems, PLCs, sensors, machines, and other operational data sources.
  • Deployment reliability, observability, debugging, testing, and iterative improvement after go-live.
  • Data collection and practical evaluation workflows around the task and the deployed models.
  • Fast fixes at the integration boundary instead of passing every problem to another engineering team.
  • Clear feedback from the field that becomes product, platform, robotics, and model priorities, plus reusable tools, interfaces, documentation, and operating patterns that make the next deployment better than the last one.

This is an in-person, implementation-heavy role.

Miami is the team's working base, and the person joining must already live in the area or be genuinely ready to relocate. A relocation bonus will be offered.

The role combines time with the central team and substantial work in active factory environments. Many near-term deployments may be in Florida, but the engineer must be willing to travel elsewhere in the United States as customer work expands.

This is not a remote position.

Candidates must already be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available. Some customer and defense-related facilities may impose additional access requirements, which the successful candidate must be able to satisfy.

By the end of your first 90 days, you should have:

  • taken a robot deployment through integration, testing, and successful operation in a real factory environment
  • shipped meaningful improvements back into the Infinite Hands platform based on what the deployment taught you

Beyond the first 90 days, success means:

  • the factory deployment becomes more reliable because you are there
  • problems are diagnosed from logs, data, operator behavior, and system evidence rather than guesswork
  • integrations work across real factory constraints, not only in a clean test environment
  • fixes made in the field become durable improvements to the platform
  • operators and customer leaders trust you as the person who understands both the problem and the system
  • each deployment creates reusable knowledge, tooling, and patterns for the next one

We care more about evidence of ownership than a specific number of years or one perfect career path.

You may be a strong fit if you can show:

  • strong hands-on systems, backend, or platform engineering ability
  • experience personally designing, building, testing, and debugging production software
  • credible work where software meets hardware, devices, robotics, embedded or edge systems, industrial automation, sensors, controls, or deployed ML
  • experience connecting systems, APIs, databases, protocols, devices, drivers, or operational data flows
  • comfort working through imperfect interfaces, legacy systems, and dirty data
  • ownership from discovery and diagnosis through deployment, stabilization, and iteration
  • high agency, learning speed, and persistence in ambiguous early-stage work
  • clear, positive communication with operators, engineers, and business leaders
  • enough business curiosity to understand why the factory cares and what operational outcome the deployment should create
  • genuine willingness to relocate to Miami, work in person, spend time on factory floors, and travel frequently

You do not need to arrive with deep expertise in every robotics, PLC, industrial, aerospace, computer-vision, or ML technology. You do need a strong systems foundation, real implementation evidence, and the ability to learn quickly across the physical integration boundary.

  • Forward Deployed Engineer who personally shipped production integrations
  • Robotics Software or Robotics Systems Engineer with real-hardware deployment and debugging ownership
  • Embedded or edge engineer who also built backend services, data flows, observability, or operator tooling
  • Applications or Field Applications Engineer from robotics, semiconductors, automation, controls, or industrial technology who writes substantial software
  • Systems or backend engineer with direct on-device, factory, robotics, sensor, or driver-integration experience
  • ML or data engineer who moved models into real operational or robotic systems and owned the surrounding data, evaluation, and reliability work
  • Founding engineer or technical founder who stayed hands-on and delivered in a demanding industrial or enterprise environment

  • ROS or ROS 2, Gazebo, MoveIt, URDF, TF2, RViz, rosbag, or MCAP
  • robotics software, embedded systems, edge computing, controls, industrial automation, or real-hardware integration
  • PLCs, sensors, cameras, robot state, action scheduling, safety checks, SCADA/MES, ERP, QMS, historians, or industrial protocols
  • concurrency, networking, latency handling, retries, service failures, safe shutdown, deterministic testing, replay, or observability in cyber-physical systems
  • task-data collection, evaluation, deployment shift, post-training, fine-tuning, multimodal models, imitation learning, robot policies, simulation, or real-robot validation
  • Python, although applicable systems and robotics experience matters more than matching one programming language
  • aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, or another regulated and high-consequence environment
  • founder, founding engineer, or early-stage operating experience

  • you want a remote role or are not willing to relocate to Miami
  • your experience is almost entirely server-side cloud work and you do not want to touch hardware, devices, legacy systems, or factory environments
  • you prefer research, prototypes, or demos to the work required for reliable production operation
  • you are strongest in strategy, pre-sales, or architecture but expect another team to do the implementation
  • you see factory-floor issues as support tickets to hand off rather than problems to understand and fix
  • you need a stable stack, clean interfaces, or perfectly defined requirements before you can make progress
  • you are not comfortable working directly with operators, engineers, and customer leaders
  • frequent customer-site work and travel do not fit how you want to work

  • The first dedicated FDE seat, with room to shape how Infinite Hands discovers, delivers, and improves factory deployments.
  • Direct work with the founding team and Lead Robotics Engineer, plus access to an active beta factory through the team's aerospace design partner.
  • A strong base salary, with flexibility above $200,000 for an exceptional candidate.
  • Equity opportunity for the right person, including flexibility for someone who values a larger ownership stake.
  • A relocation bonus for moving to Miami.
  • Work that combines systems engineering, robotics, data, model evaluation, customer trust, and visible real-world outcomes in one role.

You can expect:

  • an initial recruiter conversation with TalentFlank
  • role-fit and technical conversations with the Infinite Hands founders and technical leadership
  • a final-round technical skills assessment

The team will explain the format and expectations before each stage.
